Musical Beginnings
The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra is a group which serves to introduce the fine art of music to the many talented children of Maui. We hope to support and enrich the many students of Maui with a new vision of what the world of music has to offer.
In 2005, Ms. Iolani Yamashiro and the late Mr. Lance Jo co-founded the Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, which is the first youth orchestra outside of Honolulu, the capital of Hawai’i. It is proven that playing an instrument positively changes children’s lives (click here for brain studies and playing an instrument) and opens a new dimension in each child’s world. It may even hold the “key” to their fulfillment in life.
